WHAT ARE EATING DISORDERS?

Eating disorders are serious mental illnesses that can be life-threatening and that affect a broad range of individuals, regardless of age, race, gender, and culture. They are extremely complex illnesses, arising from a variety of biological, psychological and cultural factors, including social media, personal characteristics, and the presence of other emotional disorders. These illnesses include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and Eating Disorders not otherwise specified (EDNOS). Eating Disorders are often misunderstood as individual-made choices; however, this perception is dangerously incorrect: when an Eating Disorder is developed, It takes control of a person’s thoughts, feelings, and actions until it truly becomes that person. Read more.
